Gokarna is a village in Uttara Kannada district near
Karwar in Karnataka which is famous for its Beaches and temples which makes it
a very well known tourist spot in India, Gokarna means cow’s ear legend has it
that lord Shiva emerged from the ear of the cow in Gokarna
Gokarna is a village that is about 150 km from Goa and
238 km from Mangalore, it is about 1923 ft above sea level, Gokarna is
considered as one among the seven mukthi Kshetras in India, the Mahabaleshwara
temple here is very popular and it is visited by pilgrims and tourists all over
the world apart from the temple Gokarna is known for its beaches namely Om
beach, Gokarna beach and the Kudle beach which makes Gokarna a hot tourist
attraction in India.

The Mahabaleshwara temple
Mahabaleshwara temple is a Hindu temple which is considered
as very sacred temple for the devotees of lord Shiva which enshrines the Aatma
Lingam of lord Shiva which was given by lord Shiva to srilankan king Ravana to
make him and his kingdom invincible. Special abhishekam’s are performed in this
temple under special requests from the devotees, this temple is a must watch when
visiting Gokarna.

Gokarna Beaches
Om beach which is around 1 km long which is occupied by
restaurants, beach huts and resorts. The natural rocks around the beach are
pretty artistic to look at the aerial view of the beach resembles the shape of
OM from which the Om beach derived its name there are also other beaches like
the Gokarna Beach,
Kudlebeach, Half moon and Paradise beach.

Nearest cities to Gokarna
Goa and Mangalore are the nearest cities to Gokarna, the
nearest airport to Gokarna is the Dabolim airport in Goa which is about 140 km
from Gokarna, there are plenty of KSRTC buses connecting to Gokarna and places
around it, the nearest major railway station to Gokarna is the Ankola railway
station(20 km away) it takes about 45 minutes from Ankola railway station to
reach Gokarna.
